Today we get a report from our Arizona Sparkler — Lucas…

“My Pandemic Year by Lucas

Something “pandemic” sounds delicious but I have found it is not. In fact, it isn’t anything like my favorite cheese nibble. I started out my year at a draft test and concluded I probably needed a wee bit more practice. Live and learn. Still, I loved the long walks I took with my mom. That is until mom took some time out to acquire a new knee.

The sizzling summer was a bummer until mom started teaching me some new tricks so I could earn more of my lovely treats and Trick Dog titles. I even learned to balance a treat on my nose without eating it first! We didn’t take any long trips in my shiny red dogmobile this year but, as the weather got cooler we started going out in my big backyard every day for practice sessions that involved a bonanza of treats. I can now retrieve, jump and respond to mom’s hand signals like my border collie friend Banjo. Well, almost.

I have also been regularly pulling my cart around the neighborhood. As I said earlier, I need more practice so I can become a real draft dog. One odd thing is that I haven’t gone to any dog shows this year and everyone is wearing clothes on their face. And I now have a big tree adorned with shiny balls in my house which is also not normal. I guess I’d say my third year has been somewhat unusual but has also been, in a word, delicious. Happy holidays to all the Kaibab’s!”

THANK YOU, Team Lucas! And hang in there — the pandemic will end and we can be together at draft tests and dog shows once again. I can’t wait!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUCAS!

Birthday Week: RUTHIE!

Welcome to the Sparkler Birthday Week!

On December 20, the J Litter (aka The Sparklers) will be four years young; parents of this litter are Major and Sparkle — and both are now Veterans, which is awesome to be able to report.

We will spend a week or so catching up with all of the Sparklers, beginning with Ruthie…

Baby Ruthie

Baby Ruthie

Hi there family and friends! Ruthie here, aka Lil'Bitty (I'm not really but my mom has trouble breaking habits).

I thought I'd update all of you on my fabulous life as my 4th birthday approaches. So, this year has been kinda weird with this awful virus thing going on. It seems it has made people cranky and vicious so they need to wear muzzles so they don't hurt anybody. It's OK with me and my mom makes sure to keep me safe by not going near anyone not wearing a muzzle.

I started a fun new game last winter called tracking and when mom stopped going to work in the spring, we got to play tracking a lot and it was great!

Then, when the hot weather came and mom was working again, we ran away to Maine every other weekend.

I have lots of friends in Maine, 2 legged and 4. I never really need to be on leash when we're there and I get to swim in the lake whenever I want.

We also returned to obedience school where mom learns how to do all the exercises so I can get my CD diploma. A couple of weeks ago we tried something new called rally and apparently, I'm very good at it because I got a perfect score on both tests that we took.

Now that it's colder weather the beach is open to dogs and their people and we meet our Berner friends there every weekend. It's so much fun going in the water and playing chase with my friends and the muzzled people can be far enough away from each other so it isn't dangerous.

I'm hoping to spend part of my birthday there this Sunday. I hope you are all staying safe and I wish all my brothers and sisters a birthday as spectacular as mine is going to be. Love to all of you!

Thank you so much, Team Ruthie, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUTHIE.

Family

When things feel crowded on Long Island, Ruthie (Sparkler) has her own lake and cabin in Maine…

I think we all need such a place these days.

Ruthie reports there is just one small problem…

Acorns.

Like Ruthie, I think we could all handle that! Thank you, Lori :)

Out west in California, Nikko (iPup) and Zed (Sparkler) are unfortunately dealing with smoke…

Happy Birthday, Penny!

And speaking of family, we did a quick outside visit with the Heintzbergers on the way home from Boise. Their new place is Pozy-approved…
